Police seek seven more days to quiz MP’s son Mintu in Shakil murder case
Translated by Desk Report

Detective Branch (DB) police have sought seven more days on remand for Nuruzzaman Mintu, son of local MP Abdul Aziz, in the murder case of Chhatra Dal leader Shakil Islam in Natore’s Gurudaspur. Police produced him in court after dusk on Friday (October 30), following three days on remand, and submitted the application.
The case’s investigating officer, DB Sub-Inspector Shafiqul Islam, presented the application before Senior Judicial Magistrate Saddam Hossain. Mintu was sent to jail as the court did not hear the plea that day. The investigating officer said the remand hearing would take place next Sunday.
Shafiqul Islam said Mintu was arrested on the night of October 26. Police produced him in court the following day and sought 10 days on remand, but the court granted three days. The fresh application was filed to question him further after that period ended.
Meanwhile, police detained two more men, Al Amin and Anisur Rahman, on Friday morning for questioning in the same case.
Shakil came under attack on the night of October 14 while returning home from Chanchkoir Bazar in the upazila. Helmet-wearing assailants first shot him and then attacked him with sharp weapons before fleeing.
The critically injured Shakil was initially taken to the upazila hospital. He was later taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital and then admitted to a hospital in Dhaka for advanced treatment. He died there on the night of October 26.
