Four arrested over alleged sexual assault and murder, body dumped in drum in Sherpur
Translated by Desk Report

A beauty parlour worker was allegedly lured to a building in the capital’s Uttarkhan, sexually assaulted and killed. Her body was then packed into a plastic drum and dumped in Sreebardi, Sherpur, about 200 kilometres away. The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has arrested four people in connection with the incident.
Police recovered the woman’s body from a plastic drum beneath Kurikahania Bridge in Sherpur’s Sreebardi upazila on the morning of October 22. The PBI later established her identity through its investigation. She worked at a beauty parlour in Tongi, Gazipur.
Sources involved in the PBI investigation said the woman was called to an under-construction building in Uttarkhan, where she was allegedly forced to have sex with 10 to 12 people. Mahbuba Akter, alias Fatema, later tried to send her away with Tk 1,200, but the woman demanded more money, leading to a dispute.
According to investigators, Fatema struck the woman with a boti, a traditional cutting blade, during the dispute. When she collapsed on the floor, the other accused also beat her. They allegedly killed her by tightening a gamchha, a thin cotton towel, around her neck.
They then packed the body into a plastic drum, transported it to Sherpur by truck and dumped it there.
The PBI arrested Nur Islam, alias Babu, in Panchagarh in connection with the incident. It also arrested Sajal, Nur Mohammad, alias Gosa, and Mahbuba Akter, alias Fatema, during raids in Uttarkhan and other areas.
The PBI said one of those arrested had made a confessional statement before a court. Two others would be produced before a court today, the agency said.
The incident has caused a stir in the area. Police said the investigation was continuing to establish the roles of those involved in the killing and the details of the incident.
