Imam arrested in Munshiganj over secretly filming woman, blackmail

The district Detective Branch (DB) police have arrested an imam, Noor Alam Sheikh, 32, on allegations of secretly recording an intimate video of a woman and blackmailing her in Munshiganj’s Tongibari.
Police arrested him at a madrasa in Sreenagar around 8:30pm on Sunday (November 1) and seized his mobile phone. The district police disclosed the information in a press release on Monday (November 2).
According to police, Noor Alam had served as the imam of a Jame mosque in Tongibari for about a year and a half. He also visited a child’s home to provide religious lessons. Through those visits, he became acquainted with the child’s mother and later developed a relationship with her. He allegedly recorded their intimate moments without her knowledge.
After the matter came to light, the mosque committee removed Noor Alam from his post. Police said he continued to threaten the woman in various ways even after leaving the area.
According to the allegations, Noor Alam sent the recorded video online to a member of the woman’s family. He then used it to pressure her to meet him.
The district police said they conducted a raid and arrested Noor Alam on the instructions of Superintendent of Police Md Menhajul Alam after receiving a complaint. Police claimed he admitted his involvement during preliminary questioning.
