Translated by Desk Report

Closing arguments have concluded in a case filed over the alleged repeated rape and impregnation of a 12-year-old madrasa student in Madan, Netrokona. The court has set November 11 for the verdict.
The arguments were heard on Wednesday (October 28) in the court of Md Abdus Salam, Netrokona district and sessions judge and judge of the Tribunal for Prevention of Violence Against Children. Teacher Aman Ullah Mahmudi, alias Sagar, is the prime accused in the case.
Responding to a question from the judge during the hearing, the accused said he owned 12 decimals of land. He sought discharge from the case in exchange for all his assets. When defence lawyer Anisur Rahman raised the possibility of a settlement, the judge rejected it.
The prosecution said a DNA test report from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) found evidence identifying the accused teacher as the father of the baby born to the child. It sought the maximum punishment based on the DNA report, the police charge sheet and other evidence presented in court.
Prosecution lawyer and Public Prosecutor Md Nurul Kabir Rubel said the crucial stage of closing arguments before the verdict had been completed. The necessary documents had been submitted to the court.
He maintained that the prosecution had proved the charges against the accused beyond reasonable doubt and expressed hope that the court would impose the maximum sentence.
