Police have arrested a madrasa teacher in Gobindaganj, Gaibandha, on allegations of extorting money from a student’s mother by threatening to circulate her private photographs and videos. The woman filed a case against three people at Gobindaganj Police Station on Sunday (25 October).
The accused are madrasa teacher Faridul Islam and Md Abu Sayeed, 36, and Mohon Master, 34, both associated with the same institution.
In her complaint, the woman said she became acquainted with Faridul and stayed in contact with him while taking her child to and from the madrasa. She alleged that Faridul eventually persuaded her to share some private photographs and videos over WhatsApp and later sent them to Abu Sayeed and Mohon Master.
According to the woman, she was called to the madrasa on the afternoon of 9 October to discuss an important matter concerning her daughter. When she arrived, Abu Sayeed and Mohon Master showed her the photographs and videos and demanded money, threatening to circulate them on social media if she did not pay.
The complaint states that she handed over Tk 3 lakh 80 thousand and gold jewellery. She said she asked them to delete the photographs and videos in return, but they later demanded more money.
She alleged that they called her on the afternoon of 24 October and demanded another Tk 52 thousand. When she went to hand over the money, her relatives and local residents tried to catch the accused. Two fled, while one was caught.
