Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities detained two outsiders for moving suspiciously around the campus late at night. Both were wearing T-shirts bearing the university’s logo.

They were detained near the central cafeteria at around 3:30am yesterday, Monday.

Security office sources said guards on duty became suspicious when they saw two young men roaming the campus late at night wearing JU-logo T-shirts. After speaking to them, the guards confirmed that they were outsiders.

A university security officer said, “Their suspicious movements caught our attention as we stepped up patrols at night. They had entered the campus wearing T-shirts bearing the university’s logo to pass themselves off as students.”

Their guardians were later informed, and the two were released after pledging never to enter the campus again and signing written undertakings to that effect.

Students said outsiders had increasingly been roaming the campus without reason and engaging in nefarious activities late at night. They said entering the campus using the university’s logo to conceal their identities posed a serious security threat. Students demanded tighter security at the main gates and more regular patrols to control outsiders’ entry.
