Translated by Desk Report

The Environment Development Forum, Faridpur, has submitted a memorandum to the municipal administrator with 10 demands to address civic problems, including environmental conservation, public health protection, dengue prevention, noise control and the protection of water bodies.

The organisation’s general secretary, Moniruzzaman Monir, handed the memorandum to municipal administrator Iliasur Rahman at the Faridpur municipality office around 12 noon on Sunday (November 1).

The demands include regular mosquito control in every municipal ward, dengue prevention, construction of buildings according to approved plans, noise control at Ambika Maidan, freeing ponds and water bodies from encroachment and preserving them, road and pavement improvements, better drainage, modern waste management, control of air and dust pollution, and stronger greening programmes.

After receiving the memorandum, Iliasur Rahman immediately instructed the official concerned not to approve any event using soundboxes or generating loud noise in the Ambika Maidan area. He said the decision aimed to control noise pollution around hospitals and medical facilities.

The municipal administrator also said steps would be taken to excavate two ponds in the Kathpatti and Chawkbazar areas. Noting that necessary dengue prevention activities were ongoing, he assured the forum that the other demands in the memorandum would also be implemented.

Municipal Executive Officer Tanzilur Rahman, Accounts Officer Gobinda Chandra, forum vice-presidents Rehena Piya and Monowara Rahman, and other leaders of the organisation were present.

Forum leaders expressed hope that implementing the 10 demands would bring positive changes in environmental conservation, public health protection and residents’ quality of life in Faridpur municipality.
