A mobile court has fined trader Md Nayon Hossain, 20, Tk 25,000 for selling LPG cylinders above the fixed price in Faridpur upazila of Pabna. He will face 15 days in jail if he fails to pay the fine.
The drive took place in the Tentultala area of the upazila’s Banwarinagar market on Monday (November 2).
According to the upazila administration, it received a complaint that a trader in the Tentultala area of Banwarinagar market was selling LPG cylinders at excessive prices. Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Umme Imama Banin conducted the drive there.
After finding evidence supporting the complaint, the mobile court fined Md Nayon Hossain Tk 25,000 under Section 40 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009. It also ordered 15 days’ imprisonment in default of payment.
Nayon Hossain, 20, is the son of Samsher Ali of neighbouring Chatmohar upazila.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Umme Imama Banin said there was no scope for irregularities or overcharging for essential commodities. The administration was always working to protect the interests of ordinary consumers. Any trader charging more than the fixed price would face strict action under the law. The upazila administration would continue such drives to prevent these irregularities.
