JU plans unified academic calendar to end session delays: VC
Translated by Desk Report

The Jahangirnagar University (JU) administration has moved to develop and implement a comprehensive, coordinated academic calendar to tackle longstanding session delays and end students’ unwanted wait for results after examinations.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Nurul Islam outlined the plan while speaking to journalists at his office on Tuesday (27 October).
He said work had begun on a central, faculty-based framework to replace separate departmental calendars. From the new academic year, the initiative would provide specific, modern guidelines for admissions, classes, examination schedules and the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) system.
The administration has already adopted a specific timeline and coordinated action plan to finalise and implement the calendar.
Key decisions were taken at a meeting with the chairpersons of all departments. Each department will submit its academic proposals and schedules to its faculty dean within the next week. A central review council comprising the vice-chancellor, pro-vice-chancellor, treasurer, deans and institute directors will then thoroughly assess the proposals and draw up the final academic calendar.
Highlighting differences in the existing academic structures, the vice-chancellor said a single calendar would apply from the university’s 56th batch onwards, ensuring structural consistency from the outset to prevent future session delays. For earlier batches, separate academic calendars will be drawn up in parallel according to each faculty’s needs, coordinating the different year-based and semester systems already in place. This would substantially reduce delays in examinations and the publication of results for current batches.
The vice-chancellor confirmed that all departmental chairpersons had agreed to and expressed full solidarity with the proposed coordinated academic framework. He sought the sincere cooperation of teachers, students, officials and all others concerned to make the long-term initiative a success, freeing Jahangirnagar University from session delays and bringing it under a modern education system suited to contemporary needs.
