Victims Form Human Chain in Faridpur over Alleged Abuse Abroad and Tk60 Lakh Extortion

Translated by Desk Report

People who allege they were physically abused after being taken abroad and that Tk60 lakh was extorted from their families formed a human chain in Faridpur, demanding justice.

The demonstration took place outside the deputy commissioner’s office on Wednesday (14 October) under a banner representing ordinary people subjected to abuse and oppression. Participants later submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner.

Speakers included Mizanur Rahman, Taslima Akter, wife of the late Habibur Rahman, Nayan Talukder and Azizul Islam.

The speakers alleged that a group involving Murad Bepari, son of Mohammad Bepari of Krishnanagar village in Dangi Union under Faridpur’s Sadarpur upazila, took them abroad and subjected them to repeated physical abuse. They claimed the group collected a total of Tk60 lakh from their families in several instalments.

The complainants further alleged that, after they returned to Bangladesh, those involved refused to refund the money. They also claimed that cases had instead been filed against them.

Mizanur Rahman became emotional while appealing for the return of the money. The speakers said they had paid in good faith to travel abroad.

They demanded repayment and called for those involved to be brought to justice promptly. The participants also sought urgent government intervention.
