UP chairman arrested in bus arson case

Police have arrested Ishan Gopalpur Union Parishad Chairman and district Jubo League leader Shahidul Islam Majnu in a case over the burning of a passenger bus in Faridpur. He was arrested in the town’s Rajbari Road intersection area on Monday (26 October) afternoon.
Kotwali police said they arrested him in a raid acting on a tip-off. He faces 14 cases on charges of burning buses, vandalising vehicles, arson, sabotage and obstructing government work.
Md Mahmudul Hasan, officer-in-charge of Faridpur Kotwali Police Station, said Majnu had long been on the run. He has now been shown arrested as the prime accused in a case over the burning of a passenger bus. He will be sent to court after preliminary questioning.
