Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mohammad Ismail has been relieved of four organisational posts, including that of Chandgaon thana amir, following allegations of an affair with an expatriate’s wife in Chattogram. He has denied the allegations and maintained his innocence.

Muhammad Shahjahan, Jamaat’s central assistant secretary and director for the Chattogram region, confirmed the decision on Tuesday (October 27) afternoon. He said the city unit had taken the decision after considering the overall situation.

The complainant, a Bangladeshi expatriate living in Singapore, alleged that Ismail had an affair with his wife. He also alleged that he received death threats through his wife after speaking out about the matter.

The expatriate’s relatives submitted information and documents relating to the alleged affair to the city Jamaat unit. Several meetings were also held at the family level over the allegations. According to published information, the couple divorced on December 18, 2024.

The party formed an inquiry committee to examine the allegations. Following its report, Ismail was removed as Chandgaon thana amir on October 7. Professor Jasim Uddin replaced him the following day.

Ismail, however, rejected the allegations, saying he had no connection to the matter and was innocent.
