Jamaat-e-Islami’s Shibchar upazila unit in Madaripur has relieved Taijul Islam of his duties following allegations that he was caught in a compromising situation with a woman. He has claimed that the woman seen with him in a video circulating on social media is his wife.

The upazila unit announced the decision in a press release signed by its secretary, Yusuf Hawlader, on Tuesday (27 October).

Although Taijul had been identified as president of the Nilkhi union Jamaat unit, the upazila organisation said in the release that he was not president of any unit but had been carrying out organisational duties. It said he was relieved of those duties after the allegation surfaced.

In a post on his Facebook account, Taijul Islam claimed that the woman seen with him in the circulating video was his wife.

Shibchar upazila Jamaat Ameer Md Sarwar Hossain Mridha said action would be taken against Taijul under the organisation’s rules if the allegation was proven.

Meanwhile, madrasa teacher Md Abul Kalam Azad has filed a general diary with police, saying he received death threats over allegations that he recorded the video.

Md Rakibul Hasan, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Shibchar Police Station, confirmed the general diary had been filed. He said police had no new information on the matter at present.
