India has reiterated its commitment to maintaining stable, positive and cooperative bilateral relations with Bangladesh, emphasising mutual prosperity, economic development and the welfare of people in both countries.

Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal made the remarks during a press briefing on Wednesday (October 7), addressing bilateral relations and regional developments.

Jaiswal said India's engagement with Bangladesh was guided by a constructive, forward-looking and people-centric approach, with a particular focus on delivering tangible benefits to citizens of both nations.

He stressed that New Delhi remained interested in strengthening bilateral cooperation through sustained dialogue, practical engagement and initiatives aimed at promoting shared economic growth.

According to the spokesperson, ongoing discussions with Bangladeshi authorities have prioritised mutually beneficial cooperation, economic progress and opportunities that could contribute to the long-term development of both countries.

India's approach, he indicated, is centred on building a productive relationship that supports regional stability while advancing the common interests of Bangladesh and India.

Former Indian Envoy Comments on Sheikh Hasina's Arrival in India

Meanwhile, a former Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh recently addressed questions surrounding former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's arrival in India during the "Bay of Bengal Conversation" conference organised by the Centre for Governance Studies (CGS) in Dhaka.

Responding to a question at the event, the former diplomat claimed that the Indian armed forces had played no direct role in transporting Hasina to India.

He said neither the Indian Air Force nor the Indian Army had brought her into the country, adding that her arrival aboard a military aircraft had reportedly caught Indian authorities by surprise.

According to the former envoy, the Indian authorities had not been prepared for the aircraft's arrival, describing the circumstances as unexpected.

He further argued that Hasina was still Bangladesh's legitimate prime minister at the time of her arrival and that India, as a neighbouring country, had limited options in responding to the unfolding situation.

The former diplomat's remarks offered his account of the circumstances surrounding Hasina's arrival in India, although the claims were not independently substantiated in the information available for this report.

Focus on Bilateral Cooperation and Shared Prosperity

The Indian foreign ministry's latest statements underscore New Delhi's stated willingness to maintain constructive engagement with Bangladesh amid evolving bilateral and regional circumstances.

By highlighting economic cooperation, people-to-people interests and practical diplomatic engagement, India has signalled its intention to pursue a relationship focused on mutual benefits and long-term stability.

The remarks also reflect New Delhi's emphasis on continued dialogue with Bangladeshi authorities as both countries navigate issues affecting their bilateral relationship and broader regional interests.
