Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi armed group has claimed four military operations targeting two international airports and several facilities belonging to Saudi Arabia’s state energy company Aramco, the BBC reported.

The group announced the operations on Sunday after claiming responsibility on Saturday for a deadly attack on King Khalid International Airport in the capital, Riyadh.

In a statement on Telegram, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said the operations were retaliation for 124 Saudi air strikes on Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen over the past 24 hours.

According to the spokesman, three waves of attacks targeted King Khalid International Airport from Friday evening, shutting down its operations entirely. A fourth operation targeted King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, severely disrupting flights there, he claimed.

The group also claimed to have targeted key facilities belonging to Aramco, Saudi Arabia’s state oil and gas company. Saree claimed an attack on Aramco’s Shuqaiq gas facility caused a major fire. He also claimed a strike on Aramco’s Tanajib oil refinery set it ablaze.

In the statement, the Houthis renewed their warning to international commercial organisations, experts, workers and ordinary passengers not to use Saudi airports. The group claimed that, apart from the airports and airspace of Makkah and Madinah, no Saudi airport was currently beyond the reach of its attacks or safe.
