No chance of Hasina returning in December: Nahid

Translated by Desk Report

National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam has said there is no opportunity or possibility of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina returning to Bangladesh this December.

He made the remarks as chief guest at an NCP regional coordination meeting and press conference in Munshiganj town on Monday (26 October).

Criticising the BNP at the meeting, Nahid alleged that the party had conspired over the caretaker government system in the past. He claimed it was once again manoeuvring to install a person of its choice as chief adviser.

On constitutional reform, the NCP convener said that unless the constitution was changed through a reform council, the current government would remain a continuation of previous parliaments. In his view, constitutional reform is crucial to ensuring structural changes to the state.

Nahid also claimed that India was exerting diplomatic pressure over Sheikh Hasina’s return. However, the positions of the parties concerned on this claim require independent verification.

NCP Senior Joint Convener Sarjis Alam, Joint Convener Advocate Abdullah Al Amin, Organising Secretary Saifullah Haider, Munshiganj district NCP Convener Majedul Islam and Member Secretary Maruf Hasan Monti attended the meeting, along with other central and local leaders.
