Mother Vessel Berths at Payra Port with Modern Cargo-Handling Equipment After Two Years
Translated by Desk Report

After a gap of nearly two years, a mother vessel carrying modern cargo-handling equipment has berthed directly at the first terminal of Payra Seaport.
The China-flagged MV Fan Zhou-6 berthed at the terminal at around 10:30am on Wednesday (October 7), carrying five pieces of modern cargo-handling equipment.
The equipment includes two quay gantry cranes, each with a lifting capacity of 80 tonnes; two rubber-tyred gantry cranes, each with a capacity of 40 tonnes; and a mobile harbour crane with a capacity of 80,000 tonnes, according to the port authorities.
The equipment has been procured to modernise and accelerate cargo and container-handling operations at the port’s first terminal, the authorities said.
The 168-metre-long vessel, with a draft of six metres, departed from Pingtan Port in China on September 18 for Payra Port.
Previously, on May 15, 2024, the MV Zain berthed directly at the first terminal carrying 50,000 metric tonnes of stone. On November 1 of the same year, another mother vessel, the MV Da Hong-16, berthed at the terminal with 48,000 metric tonnes of stone and discharged its cargo.
Payra Port Chairman Rear Admiral Syed Saif-Ul Islam said the port is now fully prepared for operations, with navigability remaining its main challenge.
He said dredging work is underway to address navigability problems in the Rabnabad Channel and enhance the port’s operational capacity. At the same time, efforts are continuing to transform Payra Port into a digitalised port.
